Appeals court rejects oil companies’ challenge to Utah lease withdrawals

sltrib.com -- A federal appeals court has rejected an industry and local government challenge to the Obama administration’s withdrawal of 77 oil and gas leases that were sold at auction in the final month of the Bush administration.

Uintah and Duchesne counties joined Impact Energy Resources, Peak Royalty Holdings and Questar Exploration and Production in suing to block Interior Secretary Ken Salazar’s February 2009 decision not to issue the leases. Environmentalists and the National Park Service had opposed the eastern Utah leases, some near Arches National Park and Dinosaur National Monument, and Salazar said the Bureau of Land Management had not conducted adequate environmental reviews before the auction.

Let's all have a big corporate group hug and cry for this tragedy and travesty. NOT!

Appears many local BLM field offices have been comfy in bed with industry. It also provides great private industry jobs when they retire from 'public dis-service'.

Obama administration at it again. Business friendly, they aren't. Clinton is the biggest BS er of all time and a terrific salesman, to listen to his Democratic convention speech you would have thought the dems were the saviours but their spending has put our country in jeopardy. Reason his years in office were good is because of Newt Gingrich and the Republican congress.

That is a kick in the head. Withdrawing a lease after selling it at auction is deception. If the government conducts business like this there will be more lawsuits.
